Do not use a gun! Having someone pierce you with a piercing gun can actually cause a bubble type thing in your ear. It forces the earring thru. It's best to have someone just pierce you with a needle. Usually studs are put in at first and the person is advised to leave them in until they heal to change to jewelry.

I have had my ears pierced over 15 times now. I currently have 8 in my ears right now. The top of my cartilage in one ear has a lot of scarring which I can't pierce anymore because they used a gun to pierce it.

If you can take it, you can always do it at home as long as you sterilize the needle and earring. I have pierced both of my brothers ears and changes their earrings for them. I've also pierced my own ears several times and gauged them myself.

The cost is pretty cheap, and it depends where you go. Anywhere from $20-$50 usually. Good luck!

It is only a piercing, can't you wait until your 16? You may hurt you parents feelings if you go behind their backs. No i doesn't hurt. There's more of a chance of your ears getting infected if you get it pierced with a gun, it's best to get it done with a needle (scary i know) but it really doesn't hurt, for a split second it hurts a tiny bit but then the ear goes numb. Gok Wan has stretched ear lobes, so unless your planning to stretch your ears, i'd go for the stud. Good luck on whatever you decide.

DO NOT GET IT DONE WITH A GUN

A lot of people get piercings done with piercing guns, it's in fact very common practice because there are limited laws on regulating piercing practices, what people don't realise is that not only is this not piercing it is also dangerous.

A piercing gun literally shoots your flesh with blunt metal, no professional piercing studios use guns for multiply reasons, and piercing guns are only ever used by shop assistants.
Piercing should always be done professionally not only because the people who do the piercing can do it correctly they are also as clean as a hospital room and are aware of blood pathology and what to do if something goes wrong – from infections through to body shock.
A piercing gun has a few problems, first of which is that it is not accurate, it can lead to nerve and skin damage, also the biggest issue is that piercing guns cannot be sterilized so not only leaving you open to infection but at risk of hepatitis B.

When you first get a piercing done you will always have a ring as studs can be more difficult to clean and easier for bacteria to breed, it will need to stay in for the piercing to heal correctly and to prevent any allergies – a lot of jewellery can cause irritation leading to infection, titanium rings are the best to go for.
The healing time isn't long, only around 3-6 weeks, as long as you keep clean with either the cleaning solution given to you by the studio or salt water it should be ok, although I will say that you should be careful about your hair catching and make sure your pillows are clean.

The average cost runs at about $20, depending on studio and what jewellery they use.

It depends on where you go. If you are going to a well-known, expensive salon, it is definitely going to cost more. However, a regular ear piercing in the mall should cost about $20.00. That's what it costed for me and I got it done about four years ago...it may be a little more now.

And yes, you have to get a stud for about six to eight weeks.

They use a small gun about the size of a glue gun. Make sure that they do both ears at the same time. I highly recommend that.

I agree about using the gun. The stud has to stay in for six weeks, must be lubricated with an antibiotic such as polysporin, and must be turned approximately four times per day for those six weeks. I did this sixteen years ago, and have had no problems.

Let me revise to address the "gay" comment. It is customary for US Naval personnel--sailors--to hav ean ear pierced upon crossing the equator the first time. Haven't you ever seen Sinbad the sailor. Also, Crips and Bloods both pierce an ear, just opposites.

Most places will only charge the cost of the earrings.

And you may want to go witha stud for the first few weeks because you don't really want to have something dangling down on a recently pierced ear.

I think it depends on there you want to get it pierced... if it's low on the ear go for the mall.. if it's higher up go to a piercing salon... needles are the way to go trust me. The guns break the cartilage and it takes FOREVER for it to heal. Also a plus side to the professional salon is you get to chose what type of earring goes in it. Average cost depends on the salon between $10-$20 should cover you.
