This can be done if you make one MASTER n one SLAVE with the help of a JUMPER which is a small plastic thing used to put beneath the pin of harddisk to distinguish between the MASTER & SLAVE.
Also when you do this restart your system n start pressing delete key until a blue window appears displaying 8 functions, press enter at the first one then a screen will appear showing primary hdd, secondry hdd & other ones also, you just press enter on the secondry hdd it will search for the slave hdd & if the harddisk is installed properly it will show the contents of the HDD otherwise check for the the connections again.

On the new hard drive set the jumpers to master if it going to be plugged into a different ribbon cable than the original hard drive. It will be the secondary master in this case because it is the master on the secondary IDE channel (on the motherboard).

If you plug it into the same ribbon cable as the original hard drive set the jumpers to slave. In this arrangement it will be secondary to the master. This will be the slowest setup. If you run them both as masters on different cables and controlers the performance will likely be better.

Look in the BIOS by pressing the Delete key repeatadly as the pc boots, or the F1 key, of the F10 key - or look on the screen - it will tell you. You should see the new drive in there with the serial number, size, and type.

Good Luck - it'll work.

Is it an external or an internal hard drive?

If it is internal check with the jumpers and make sure the cable connections are properl fit. The RED part of the cable (IDE) has to go to the little 1 next to the plug in the hard drive, and check your BIOS ... (see link below)
Easiest thing would be to invest a little cash and get a case for the thing. that way you can use it via USB, take it with you if you want, and use it on other computers.

possibly there may be two IDE interfaces for HDD's to be connected. if not, plug the bus socket which is found between the other two sockets in to ur new hard disk.

Another idea is that, u should make one of ur HD as master n one as slave, by replacing the jumper(found at the rear left on the HD) to the next position. this makes ur other HD also get detected. Now enjoy ur pleasure of both

You have to ensure that the jumpers are set correctly. Make sure that one is a slave and one is a master. Don't set both to the same attribute.

No, dude, there's an extra space for a secondary hard drive too.

set the first harddisk as Master Drive on which OS is installed
and set the second harddisk as Slave Drive.

If you don't know about - How to set these options, then ask your computer hardware engineer to do . . ..
