if you are under 18 it is best (and safest, in this day and age) to stay close to your own age group.

if you are around 21 you will probably do best to hang in the 18-25 crowd....these are the college aged kids....most share common interests.

25 & older...out in the work force....becoming a responsible adult....it is cool to be friends with any age, 21 or older of course, once you are at this age you will feel comfortable speaking and carrying friendships with an 80 year old, if they share your same interests.

it doesn't depend so much on age but the type of friendship that it is. If you are young and are hanging out with older people who are putting you in danger its not a good situation but there is no reason that a teenager can't have a 90 year old friend if you share a healthy interest in something.. although that would be pretty uncommon, its not impossible. As far as people you hang out with all the time, your own age group is best until you are an adult, then age doesn't matter. We are all then just adults.

if you're under ten, the age difference should be max 3, If you're in the teens, the max should be 2 and the rest differentiates more. But of course, it's different fro different people. When i was 16 i befriended a couple 21 year old asians and we went clubbing all the time. I always got in... i suppose i look older than ir eally am

If you are under 18, you should try to limit your close to friends to under 18 as well. Afterward, I don't think it matters much, my oldest friend is 17 years older than me and my youngest friend is 9 years younger - BTW I am nearly 40, and the ages have spread out more as I have aged.

I don't think that age really matters when you're talking about friends. Granted, people who are close to your age will be able to relate to you better when talking about some things, but older and younger friends are great to have, too.

dude i don't know. i find that my friends who are around my age are so irresponsible, unemployed and do not take life seriously. so i enjoy hanging with the older people of my neighbourhood or simply staying by myself.

Don't be friends with anyone that doesn't share your birthday (the closer to your actual birth time, the better).
