Jane, those that support the Bush administration are blinded to the facts. America started to decline during the Reagan administration, the worker is suffering the major brunt of this decline, but I view it as a pendulum and hopefully it has swung as far to the right as it will go and will begin its swing to the left soon, the health care system in this country is horrible and it will be hard to over come the insurance company lobby but it needs to be done. If you take the profit away from the insurance company's the cost will come down to a reasonable level and I see no other solution then to move toward socialism in this field. The capitalistic system is a good one until somebody gets greedy. This has happened in the big oil company's and the health care industry. There is nothing wrong with making a profit but when that profit gets out of wack and preys on peoples illness or needs it is just wrong. Food, shelter, and health care are the things that need to be kept in perspective and should be attainable by everyone in this country, remember we are the richest country in the world and our natural resources alone are sustainable for many years to come.

It's happening everwhere. The vast majority of Australians are living on or below the poverty line, personal debt is at an all time high. With the new laws that have come in workers have to push harder to get an unfair dismissal compensation ruling or to prove discrimination. People who have worked 10 years at a place full time with all the benefits that come with this are being "advised" by their superiors to cash in their allocated time off or lose all benefits & are being forced to reapply for their position except at a casual position; without sick leave or anything. People are defaulting on home loan payments because the interest rate rises each quarter & they can't afford an extra $20 a week while the cost of petrol & groceries is rising exponentially. That's how tight it is. I have no idea about the future but I do know the gap between rich & poor is getting huge & it's scary.

Well, let me see...
I work hard now, probably close to 65 hours a week for a moderate wage.
Nobody intimidates me when it comes time to take vacations. That is a personal issue you have with your employer. Not an issue that society has with your employer.
I AM grateful I have a job and I pay my own health care premiums. I fed my kids. I was a single mother with 3 children and I remember a day that I only had $1.29 in my pocket to buy something for supper for those 3 kids. I bought a can of soup and box of crackers for them. I stood in line at the checkout behind a woman who had a cart full of groceries. There was all kinds of junk food, steaks, cookies, the kind of luxuries someone in my position could rarely afford.. (You see I had to pay bills). After she "purchased" her groceries with her food stamps she then pulled a couple of $20's out to pay for her beer, pop and cigarettes. Now that is a injustice. But you know what... besides that the woman disgusted me somewhat, I felt sorry for her. She was playing into a system that was going to keep her *needing them* for however long they needed her support at the polls. . I made a conscience decision when I chose to become a single parent with 3 small children to TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for my decision. That woman made a conscience decision to allow everyone to pass her responsibility onto every one else.
If you think what you are whining about is "new" around America you are sorely mistaken.
If you are looking to pass your lot in life off on the leaders we have today in the White House you can't do it. I am assuming that is what you mean by your "new" America comment.

1. Do you have much of a choice in whats in your plan now? The company you work for dictates your plan now. They might give you a few options but whats the difference? A few dollars?? 2. Seriously come on now, under a group plan at work everyone is treated the same regardless of previous medical conditions and lifestyles they have. So basically you ALREADY ARE paying for other peoples bad lifestyles!!! 3. Who cares nothing like going to a doctor and having to come out of pocket 2-3 grand.... 4. Again how is my current plan any different/better than the government one? Heck it might do down cause there are more people paying into the system. 5. If were all under the same system, tell me again why I wont be able to see the same doctor... This article is just pure propaganda.

That is exactly why i don't usually vote republican. I think every man should be able to afford a good standard of life in a forty hour work week. that's why I'm union. Sadly tho its going to get alot worse before it will get any better. in construction you have got people from all over the world coming over here and doing jobs for far less than what we do them for. So of course, they get the bid. I'm sure its the same in all other fields of blue as well as white collar jobs. It's all about the greedy getting greedier. and trying to keep their bread and butter (the man that actually does the work) out of the know.
its not just the foreign people either. There are Americans, that don't know any better and have been taught all of there lives that they should just do as there told. They also believe what the boss tells them to beleive. (sounds like a certain political party I know of).

As an employer, I am greatly against this treatment of employees. Our work week is generally 35 hours. Working from home is available for those who need it up to 2 days per week. The insurance is 70% paid by our company. 20 days/year vacation time is mandatory for EVERY employee. I also offer 12 weeks paid maternity leave and 4 weeks paid paternity leave. More employers need to grasp the importance of this.

I do NOT support it...people who get to go on vacations, have to take their work with them, stay in touch with "the office" in case they are needed..what kind of vacation is that??? They are so afraid of losing their jobs if they dont work harder and longer for less pay, no vacation, and no insurance......As long as we have a governement of the rich, by the rich, and for the rich, we are going to suffer.......

it shouldnt be this way nobody should be made to feel they have to work hard or longer hours to get vacation time or anything else. they make it this way for all of us so that when it comes time for us to take vacation they try to intimidate but if you dont let them then they wont.

It'll get worse with the current administration and if Republicans keep the house and senate, well, look at how things are working now, there would only be change for the worse.
