As far as I am aware no state has an actual age requirement. The only laws I have seen are first the child must sit in passenger position with feet on pegs not in front of the driver. Second the child must wear a helmet in all but three states.

My daughter has been riding with me since age 5. Her legs were a little short so I custom-ed some pegs that she could reach for support. I kept the rids to a max of 20 minutes at first and slowly worked up. This allowed her the chance to get used to the bike without getting to tired. she is now almost 8 and I still limit her rides to 2 hours with a lot of stops so she can stretch out. I keep her off the big road but do however take her on county highways. I make sure she has her leathers on and is dressed for the weather as much as is possible.

What ever you do, do NOT push the child to ride as this will create a resentment or possible fear of the bike. encourage and support. Take it slow and enjoy the ride. Most of all be safe.

Never...that's what it should be anyways. I used to ride and I would NEVER put my child on my bike. The first and foremost thing that motorcycle riders should know is the dangers of riding for so many reasons. To deny that there are more odds against you on a bike is stupid. If a small animal runs out in front of a car the worst case scenario is the little guy doesnt survive, worst case on a bike is that YOU dont survive.

If you think this is a bunch of BS then maybe I should track down the little eight year old boy I saw trembling on the side of the road wearing an adult helmet and watching as his father die in the road. Thank God it wasn't the other way around as no child is mature enough to say "yeah, I'll risk my life for a ride today".

You need to contact your local law enforcement agency. Each state has different laws regarding motorcycles. I live in Florida and I pick up my 8 year old grandson from school every day. There are several parents who pick their children up on motorcycles. So here they can be in elementary school but they have to wear a helmet even though adults do not.

So call your local police department and inquire.

It depends on where you live. You want the child to be able to put his feet on the pegs and be able to wear a mc helmet that fits properly.

It depends on the country and state or province. I rode on the back of my father's bike when I was five, and we were never pulled over.
