If it is set up with roaming. My advise is to contact your service provider (vodaphone) and get you sim card updated. The service is free but is expensive to use overseas. Use texting as it is cheaper, and bear in mind US networks charge per second so even a 2 sec call will cost over one pound. Plus in the US they even charge you if you get the engaged tone so always use texts

1st thing you need to do is check with Vodaphone who thier US roaming partners are. A UK tri-band phone is 900/1800/1900 American GSM is 850/1900. Cingular uses both 850 and 1900 and has been switching off the 1900 band and going to mostly 850. Alot of Cingular areas could be dead spots for you if they switched that area to 850 T-Mobile is all 1900 but does not cover as much of the US compared to Cingular. How well your phone works or how limited you might be will depend on who Vodaphone has an agreement with. If they have it with both Cingular and T-Mobile, you will be fine

If the handset is triband and your service provider has switched on international calling for your, you will be able to receive and make calls from the US to the UK. Also remember that electricity is 110V in the US and the handset requires 220V - make sure you have an appropriate charger for when your battery dies.

Yes, you should be fine. However, you may need to contact your provider and make sure that the international roaming is turned on/activated. International roaming can be very expensive, even just for text messages. It may be cheaper just to call on the hotel phone or to buy a phone card.

what you wont be able to do is charge your phone they are on 110 volts so your phone will probably fry if you try to plug it in, so buy and charge up a few spare batteries in the UK before you leave then swap batteries as they run out of charge
