Generally this is a sigh of poor water quality. Male bettas will build bubble nest when they've bonded to a territory. Note that male bettas are loners, and won't put up with any betta male or female in their bowl.

Bubbles is just for adding oxygen into the tank for the fish. It the bubbles is too much, it will still cause stress to them. Just remeber moderation is the key word.

Bubbles mean their is alot of oxygen in the bowl; which will make your fish healthier and therefore, happier!!
