i recently purchase a dual core processor but its not showing in the task manager that its running on 2 core, my os is windows xp

go to task manager - performance tab - if you have dual core there will be two windows under the cpu usage history ...as opposed to only one for single core

In the task manager->performace bar u can see the usage of two processors.
If u are not able to see these there can be two reasons
1)One of ur processor is not working
2)u are cheated with a Single Core.
The 2nd thing can be detected by right clicking My Computer which will give u enough details abt ur processor.

Make sure that u installed proper M/B softwares.
