mmm.. I did mention humour as an icebreaker, and that is what it is intended to be , in that particular situation. I don't use pick up lines , but they can be seen as an attempt at humour too. In both cases they are meant to be ice breakers, but with different intentions. The latter would maybe ,be a cover-up of the true feeling of possibly being rejected, the other to put people at ease.

Personally I use humour alot in different situations and for different reasons. I confess that other then using it as an icebreaker, I also use it to difuse a potentially nasty situation ,by allowing others to lighten up a bit ,(yes i know , I am being controlling then ) . But I can also be serious where needed, and would not crack jokes at inappropriate times.

I also admit that I learnt how to be humourous, as a coping mechanism ,as a child. Since the cause of that behaviour is no longer in my life , I do not use humour in the exact same way, as then ,i was covering things up ,as i did not want anyone catching on .
I am an adult now , who can speak up for herself, if needs be. And believe me , I do, and that is no joke!

Well my belife is not to cover up if someone doesn't like what i have to say then see ya later...
but i have seen people just put on a mask to hide how they feel and mainly they just avoid the topic they don't want to talk about!
but icebreakers and converstations maker is the start of somthing i don't feel it is for humour! if you don't know someone you can't talk about the kids they may or may not have so "Hows the weather is a great start"
well i hope it helped

No, it is not an icebreaker or a cover-up.
It could be a conversation maker if it is between two persons who share the idea of broadening the perspective of life.

Humour is the best way to tell people the truth about them without them feeling hurt. I have made the biggest insults to people, wrapped in a compliment. People never got mad at me, using humour is the easiest way if, like me you are not always a nice person, to keep your friends your friends. They're not dumb, if I go too far, they will say so.
Humour helps to relativity, without it, we would all be at war with each other.

Humour can be a part of covering up someone's sorrows as are the wordings from an Indian Film Song : (Translated)

"Why are you smiling so much ...
What sorrows are there that you are hiding . "

But one may be showing off Humour to hide some evil intentions .

For me it's a mask. Humour makes people think I am clever, frankly I find it hard not to be humorous when people leave themselves wide open.
