Use a utility such as SiSoft Sandra to find details about your sound card then download the appropriate drivers and reinstall it by using Update Drivers in the Device Manager.

If your sound card was supplied with the PC, the drivers will be on a CD which will have come with the PC. That may be the simplest way to reinstall it but it's likely that the drivers will have been updated.

if u have another external sound card try setting the one u want from the (controlpnl-->sound-->audio devices).Choose the one u need.If this is not the case , go to device manager , uninstall the device. Then Scan for hardware changes, if windows didnt give the driver then u have it on a CD which came with ur motherboard(if the sound is built in), browse the driver during the installation process.
