First off, I hope you are feeling better. Your question was a valid one, and it deserved some decent answers. I have noticed alot of sarcastic, mean answers on many questions here. Of course, no one deserves this with a valid question. People can be mean, sometimes for no apparent reason. I can only imagine they are unhappy with their own lives, as the person who has cancer. That person needs loving people around to help be an emotional support. I know I stay away from this website and chats when I am in a bad way. I don't want to spread the bad cheer because it spreads just as quickly as good cheer. As for preventing future colds and illness during the colder months, here are some tips I used when raising my two children.
Never let them use a drinking glass more than once, always wash it before reuse. Especially in the bathroom where they brush their teeth. As for the toothbrushes, buy some Listerine, use a larger glass and soak them in 1/2 listerine and 1/2 water. Replace the toothbrushes every two months, or after an illness of any kind. This is not as expensive as it used to be, as I have seen 2 pack and 5 pack of toothbrushes at the Dollar Store. When they go out in the cold, the most important places to keep them warm are the top of the head, the throat and chest area. Schools are full of other children, so no doubt they will come home ill one time or another. Then it's plenty of liquids in any form to wash the germs out of the body as quickly as possible. With fevers, avoid milk products because they produce phlegm in the throat and induce coughing. Soups, jello, popsicles, gatorade, soda, koolaid and juices. Dry toast is good after a bout with nausea, as are saltine crackers and pretzels. Always call the doctor with any fever over 100, and don't let them put you off if fever goes on more than 2 days. good luck.

The anonimity doesn't help.
And a lot of questions are stupid, so people get into a groove of answering stupid questions in a flipent manner.
Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a solution to this at the moment, you just have to wade through the dross.
When you post a question on here you are not being selective about who you ask. Its exactly the same as going down the street and asking everyone. You wouldn't expect a load of sensible answers from the drunkerds, drop outs, 10 year old kids, crack head, or the high flyers on the way to thier self-obsessed board room meeting would you ? So you can't expect a lot of sensible answers here I'm afraid.
I guess its a similar pychology to people who takes thier brains out when they get into a car, they become different people and behave totally different than if they had to answer for thier actions.
I've read your previous question and can't see anything wrong with the answers, I guess the spiteful one you mentioned has been removed.

Hmm well apart from mental health issues.. including the guy who supposedly has cancer..
It's because everyone's anonymous on the internet. You can be guaranteed most if not all wouldn't act that way to your face.
Some people are just bored and trying to act smart. Same as the people in school trying to show off.
Some people are just speaking their mind which is fair enough, but most aren't even paying attention, they're just wanting their 2 points.
I sometimes find questions like that annoying, it depends how the person words it, and how many i've saw like that the same day. The people who are always wanting medication for tiny problems annoy me, but sometimes it's fair enough. Depends how they ask the question really.
I saw the answers you got and most of them were INCREDIBLY nice and giving you proper (helpful) answers. I can see why they made a remark about the alcohol, cos you said you were tipsy! It is a bit weird to mention concern for your kids then mention you're being affected drunkenly by alcohol. But it was by no means nasty.

I'm suprised you bothered to write the above. When people are dealing with their own mortality, other people dealing with temporary minor sickness and ills irritate them. You should have enough empathy to ignore it. Yeah, it stings but so what?
For the guy suffering from cancer, your post is like a homeless person watching Paris Hilton try to get a free meal at a restaurant. Paris will eat whether its free or not, but the homeless guy won't. Well you and your family will get better over time. Remedy or no, but what about cancer? Time will only make it worse.
When someone suffing from a terminal illness acts offensive it is just better to ignore it. Lashing back at the sick should be beneath you.

I just want to say that i dont think was any need for the person who has cancer to put that in. You wasnt saying you think a cold is worse that cancer. You're a mother and have to be able to look afetr young kids. Some people are just naturally spiteful and want others to feel sorry for them. Hope you get better soon

Well....If I may be slightly fair, from what you're saying, only a few were really spiteful.
But usually people can be spiteful with their answers for the following reasons:
a) They're bored and are out merely to insult for fun because they can get away with it.
b) They feel they had a bad day/life and take it out on others
c) They strongly disagree with a question. This is particularly found in the religion section, not in this case.
Hope you're feeling better now, by the way.

I enjoy comedy and I enjoy wit. But when comedy and wit become outright insulting and offensive, that's when they cease to become comical and witty and step into the pool of hate and spite. IMHO, too many people here don't know the difference. They spew hate, and then excuse it by saying they were only fooling around. When you write something, I can't see the expression on your face, or the tone of your voice, so it takes a special skill to write such things effectively.

I shouldn't worry about it lovely, some people are just so very opinionated on here, makes me cross to read some of the answers people give, as if they actually know. Ignore them, and to the guy with cancer, its very sad but there are children who suffer from cancer, Leukaemia, varying disabilities, and they are alot less bitter than you seem to be, which goes to show that someone is always worse of than you, but it doesn't take away what one is suffering personally, don't be unnecessarily rude to people.
Hope your cold gets better soon.

You'll always get spiteful and compassionate answers on a forum like this, some people don't have much love in their bitter hearts so they don't have much to give, they survive and get a sense of satisfaction and achievement out of slagging others off, unfortunately it doesn't make them any happier....just ignore the crap answers and use the good ones.

not everyone is like that...and a cold and feeling bad is not as bad as cancer...as you know the cold will eventually go away. maybe this person was having a bad day. i have read some pretty nasty answers on here myself....i don't know why people can't be nicer...but they are not.
i guess you should do as i do...ignore the bad ones and concentrate on the good. i do know a sarcastic answer than upset you and ruin your day...which is exactly what people want when they answer you that way. ignore them and keep on smiling....
