I have a 45 gallon tank. The people we bought it off of gave us the fish that were in it too. 2 Angelfish and 2 Rasboras. Well we wanted more so we went and got 5 Danios, a Betta and 2 Pictus Catfish. This morning my fiance wakes up to feed the fish and one Rasbora is dead(the lady we got them from told us they were old) And our Betta's fins were shreaded. I think it was the Angelfish, they are big. I have seen on some websites that Bettas and Angelfish are compatable. Was it the angelfish? Also can anyone give me a link to website that is accurate? I don't want to make a mistake like this again. And do you think my Betta will recover?

We did watch them for awhile too. Everything seemed ok.

I moved him back into the bowl that we bought him right after my fiance woke me up and told me.

The answer that said Beta's can live in dirty water, this is very untrue, and this is something that people think is true and is why their betas end up dying... Their water needs changed every other day... My local pet store reccomends not putting any other fish in with Betas because they are very aggressive... It may have been the angel fish because they are aggressive also and the two fish were probably felt their "power" was in danger by the presence of the other fish... I hope you figure everything out because that's a horrible thing to have happen... I would just keep him in a separate bowl for the time being... What ever you do though, don't put a war & peace flower in the top because that'll kill them.

the angelfish are dominant in the tank since they are big they can do what they want. put the betta in a bowl add a little aquarium salt to help with recovery. i wouldn't add anymore community fish. might try some barbs or gourami's. wouldn't hurt to add stress coat and salt to the big tank as the fish may be stressed from the move.

Angelfish are aggressive, but the Betta could also have been in a fight. Get a goldfish bowl and put the Betta in it. He might survive on its own. Betta's grow up in rice fields and can live in dirty water for a while, so you don't need a filter or airation. He might recover. Usually they do better on their own anyway, but they don't live that long either. I usually replaced mine every 6-12 months depending how long they lived.

It could have been the angelfish or the catfish.
Segregate the betta into a fishbowl for a few weeks and he should recover.
Research the proper care of a betta.

I would contact a petstore directly and ask someone (make sure it is a reputable petstore and person and not a new hire or something) I think the size of your tank is way to big for a beta but I'm not an expert. Hopefully your beta recovers.

Angel fish look deceptively sweet and gentle. They are aggresive, as are danios. If his fins aren't damaged to the point of his not being able to swim, he'll be fine in time.

Take the angel fish out!
They even kill each other.
