I will tell you some names of women:

Violeta Chamorro (President of Nicaragua)
Michelle Bachelet (President of Chile)
Eva Perón (Argentina)
Rosalía Arteaga (Ecuador, ex vice president)

So, what was your question?

women don't shy away from politics...someone gave the examples of women presidents and women of political influence...i give the example of hilary clinton...i believe that she will run for president of the us....i will most certainly vote for her if she does....for those idiots out there that think a woman's place is at home to act as an ornament for the successful husband and a feeding machine for the children....just shut up...to assume that women are innately weaker and dumber and less able to process information or deal with stress is absolutely insane! i don't shy away from politics...i suppport at every level...i am interested at every level...do not generalize and condemn one group for what another majority group believes...know that facts...then make your opinion on the matter...that's what polictics, cultural and social interactions, and life in general is all about.

I adore politics. *checks* yep, and I'm still a woman.

But honestly, it's because we aren't taken seriously. You have to be willing to walk into an office and immediately be seen as invisible or not credible and then burst through these barriers. Not everyone has the energy or strength for that. If the roles were reversed, where men were taken less seriously, we'd probably see the same trend.

In the state of Arizona, the most honest & intelligent governor we have had in 20+ years is a woman; 3 of the top 5 jobs in state gov in AZ are currenly held by women. The number of women in congress is slowly but steadily increasing. Cultural mores can take time to change.

We don't shy away from it exactly, we just find it boring. Men have a knack of remembering, learning and taking an interest in dull things. Women, just don't. Whoever you vote for won't change a thing cos they all promise things they don't deliver. I don't have the attention or memory span for dull things because seconds into a speech or conversation and my brain involuntarily switches off and wanders to more interesting things. That doesn't make me thick because i'm far from it. I just crave interesting information

i'm a woman and i vote! i've worked in local, state and national political camps. i was also co-director of rock the vote for my state in the 04 elections.

i think (from my expierence) the biggest reason is because women are still newer to having the ability to vote, and are still kind of in the dark. why i don't know, but alot of younger people don't care or aren't informed...and the older ones are kind of in the same boat but also the newer thing. too bad some of women's lib was forgotten!

anyone reading this....november...vote...make yourself count!!!

I think they do not handle rejection as well as men and political career is a very public career. To not win an election, have your proposal ridiculed and ultimately if you have any amount of success it will end in failure ( I think it was Tony Ben said a politicians career has to end in failure - because they have to step down or are not reelected).

Everything you do at the higher levels is open to public scrutiny and there is no time of for bringing up families.
