Bra is short for brassiere (french)
Pants is short for pantaloons which i think used to be two seperate garments - one for each leg-
But i stil don't get why we in britain say trousers and in the USA they call them pants - what do they call mens knickers???

Most of the things we wear on the lower part of our body is plural
for eg:
a ) Shorts
b) Trousers
the word "panties" also go in line with these garments.

well that question sure did..you really made me think about it...10 points to you..makes sense that bra should be aptly named...bras... and panties..(well we call them knickers)...should be called panty or knicker......
I dont have the reasoning for you but i will tell you this...
I didnt burn my bra...I had it ...ripped off me !!...haha...I tell everyone this because I am a breast cancer survivor and it is my way of dealing with it and staying positive.....Love your question and be happy and healthy...........

I don't think there's an answer to that...some things having to do with language cannot be explained (for example, why is 'the table' feminine in french - la table?)
