I am trying to replace a lock on my door, and the phillips head screw is stripped, so I can't turn the screw to take it out. How can I take out old locks?

There is axctually a small drill bit looking thing you can buy called a screw extractor. The screw gets a hole drilled in the center and then you put the extractor into the drill and then into the hole in the screw. It backward twists it. They make several sizes for different screws. Mine are from Vermont American company. Good luck.

Try using different sized screw drivers or get a drill bit the size of the head of the screw and drill the head of the screw out,the metal is soft and will drill out easily, then use pliers to finish the job.

Drill it until the head of the screw pops off. Typically need a good drill and bit depending on how hard the metal is.

I have had some success with using a larger screwdriver and getting into the grooves and getting out that way.

I have also pried a bit and gotten mad and pulled out with a claw (not recommended if you have to put another screw in exact place)

Another idea that has worked is put a tad bit of gorilla glue in hole and then while still soft stick in Philips and pull out - when hard twist and that worked once.

you should use a drill bit somewhat smaller than the screw itself and drill it out yet being careful no longer to interrupt the threads. Or, you should use a drill bit smaller than the screw and drill a hollow down the middle of the screw. Then, purchase an "worry-free out" bit to get rid of the screw. you could p.c.. one up at Lowe's or abode Depot and a unmarried bit will fee about $5.00 or you will get an finished worry-free Out kit for about $30.00. i'm hoping that permits.

Go to Sears, and purchase Craftsmen "Back ups". They are relatively inexpensive and worth they're weight in gold. They are sharp "bits" that cut into a stripped screw head, and "bite" enough to back out. Good Luck.
