I'd take the money back, or at least put it back into my account at the cash desk in the bank. As has already been said they'll have a full listing of all the transactions and will trace it back, and again I might think i've benefited from the £500, just to find £500 has been taken out of my account anyhow!

Take £100 then wait until the cashpoint takes back the money and let the bank deal with it.

Most ATM's have CCTV covering them although you might not have noticed it, that's the idea.

Your transaction time will be known by the bank, tie this into the time on the CCTV which it certainly will have and very quickly they will have a photo of you.

An even like this was reported in a national newspaper, they were all found and made to return the money.

The bank would more than likely know from its records that £500 was dispensed to you and would ask for the money back. I'd be inclined to keep the extra money somewhere safe until and if the error was realised, then you could give it back if need be.

I should be so lucky, but I think my conscience would have me go into the bank and hand it over as much as part of me would love to blow the lot, knowing my luck I would get found out and be hauled off to prison, I'd give it back and kick myself for the rest of the week.

Take it and run. The bank takes my money for various charges and fees that make no sense to me. They even charge for getting a statement. If the machine gave me 50,000 I'd take it and run.

Legally, if you took the money knowing you had been overpaid and with no intention of returning it, that is theft.

However, the bank would probably be far too embarrased to prosecute.

Take it and run. The bank takes my money and runs, so why shouldn't I do the same to them?
