Pregnant women should always get their blood glucose level done during the first trimester(first three months) and then again during the last trimester(last three months) to rule out gestational diabetes. It is found that pregnant women who have gestational diabetes may develop overt diabetes in future.More over pregnant women with altered glucose level tend to have large birth weight babies, hence may have difficulty during labour. It is not that all pregnant women should avoid sweets, only those with altered glucose level should avoid sweets.
