More than updating it, I believe we need to 'follow' it. Not just the letter of the Constitution & Bill of Rights, but to follow the intent of their creation.

The 'problem' (I believe) is the disassociation of issue resolution with input to the legislators. Money and lobbyists are driving the direction of the country and the 'regular' votor is disenchanted because they don't have the connection with the congress and president.

I read a book where Lincoln spent time each day/week to talk to ordinary people. In the White House. If we could actually have a system that allowed each person to be heard on a level playing field, we would be much better off...

good question. thanks.

Generally, no - I don't think we need a major overhual.

One thing that should be considered is an amendment adressing what happens if a large number of congresspeople are unable to serve. There is a line of succession for the President and a procedure to replace the Vice President. Senators can be appointed by governors if there is a vacancy. I believe that the only way to replace a congressperson is a special election. God forbid some mass attack occurs that leaves much of the Congress unable to serve. Special elections would take far too long. Either we'd have no way to act, or the President would have to take much more power, something probably neither possible nor desirable.

There are other relatively minor changes I could suggest - I could write all morning - but this is urgent. There were discussions about it after 9/11 - an amendment allowing, say, governors to appoint temporary congresspeople - but five years later nothing has happened. I hope we don't regret this one day . . .

If we should, there's a well-defined choice of methods for doing that contained in the Constitution itself. All it takes is the political will of the citizens.

Well you could change it from "We The People" to "We the Government" so it could reflect what has happened to this Country.

Yes and make liberalism punishable by deportation. We tried humiliation and that didn't work.
