Well, first of all you need to know which air bag or bags are the problem because there are more than one air bag that the vehicle has. On some vehicles it is not the installation that cost so much, but the part. You need to know what they are repairing to get a better idea why it cost that much. Is it 2 air bag and the module ( which controls the air bags ) or is it the air bags on the side ( called side curtain ) or the the air bags in the seat? Those are the things you need to know in order to make a better judgement if it to expensive or not. If it is just a wiring repair then I would say that is to much money, that would be outrageous, but I am sure with the price it must be some part or parts that need to be replaced. Dealerships are NOT!!!!!! always the most expensive as it is the thing that people like to say which is unfair. Most dealerships have very qualified and experience technicians that know exactly what they are doing. Always ask more questions and get more details. You can always find out what parts and what is being replaced, then call to other dealerships to get an estimate.

1300 may not be too high... it depends upon the work performed. i would ask for a detailed receipt (which you deserve) and see what was done EXACTLY. i would also attack the seller of the vehicle concerning disclosure of a major accident if that was the case. lots of things need to be investigated in this matter. so the answer to your question is yes.. you were probably ripped off, but probably not by the service department that did the repairs... you were probably ripped off by the entity that sold you the car without telling you about the history of it.

Dealers are generally the highest. It has been advised that you buy a new factory air bag rather than one from a salvage yard. Most licensed auto body shops are qualified to replace an air bag. A few years ago it had become popular for thieves to steal air bags from cars and resell them to auto shops. Once it was recommended that you buy a new one it cut down on the theft issue. I have heard that salvage yards have many air bags from salvaged autos on their shelves, but no buyers. They are somewhat a heath issue too. The substance that inflates the bags is a deadly poison, so getting rid of the old ones is a serious matter.

Did you check the fuse for the airbag, because that will make the light come on. I took mine out because I didn't want my face getting bruised up in a 10mph collision, I don't think it's worth 1300 to get it fixed

I think you are being ripped off, even if the car is second-hand. Take it further! A short letter from your lawyer is ofen cheaper and works wonders if you have already got nowhere speaking to the manager of the company.

$1300.00 for this repair is totally un-reasonable!
Sad thing is, that's probably about the norm though! I'd buy another car.
