Yes there are a few, Dennis Skinner AKA The Beast of Bolsover, Tony Benn, and last but not least, Mo Mowlem RIP. All the rest are venal ,corrupt and lying careerist simpletons with no underlying value system or political philosophy at all. It seems to me that all they want is power for its own sake, not for how they can help PPL with that power. All based on kneejerk short term thinking, they do not think things through and most of the legislation is all half hearted cowardice. All just because they are scared of the a*sewipeDaily Mail.

What do you mean by self-serving? I don't think anyone in politics can be truly 'For The People', as you can't please everyone all of the time. Whine on about the lack of democracy, but Fidel Castro has done a lot of good for Cuba, given the awful situation over there, and due to the political situation he hasn't gave in to big business for secret kickbacks - which is a big problem in the West. And when he retires, he won't sign on to a huge corporation to draw a huge paycheck for doing a few after dinner speeches.

Well, since the pay is so poor, I don't think there's many people who are in the self-serving category in Finland. It's a job, like any other, with a lot of downsides. :)

No. They get into politics to become millionaires, with their insider trading, back room deals, ear marks and pork spending. Much of the money they get is never even reported.

Bush. He only does what he thinks best for the USA.
He never backs down.
He never gives up.
He doesn't follow the day to day changes of polls.
I just hope he's right about Iraq. If we lose Iraq, all of Europe will soon be taken over by radical Muslim extremists.
