I have the same problem. I am constantly in search of the perfect bag. The fashion these days just seems to be bags with short handles that you hold in the crook of your arm, which I find particularly annoying. I much prefer a long-handled bag that I can wear across my body and have my hands free. All the high street shops are such slaves to fashion though that they persist in only stocking copies of the designer bags that Paris Hilton, Kate Moss et al are using. Until they see the practicality of a long strap bag, there's not much hope for us! I find that E-bay is pretty good for bags but the ones that are big enough for my purposes tend to be school bags! I recently bought two really cute bags with the cartoon character Pucca on them. I did actually see a couple of nice bags in BHS the other day. They were classed as 'flight bags' but both had long straps plenty of space and zip pockets. They were both £12 (I really should have bought one, might nip out at lunch time!) and I think they just came in black.
Good luck with your search and if you find anything good, please give me a shout!

You should look into a Coach handbag. A lot of the traditional styles have a strap that you can adjust to long so that you can wear it over the shoulder or even across the body. Then the strap is so cool you can fold it in half and you have a short strap bag to carry by hand or in the crook of your arm, or even still on your shoulder still. I have a three year old and went on a bag hunt myself when i retired the diaper bag. I have had great luck with Coach. You can shot on line or at many department stores. Also if you have any outlet malls in your area you can shop after the seasons and get great deals. Hope this helps

Sorry, i prefer the short handle double top bags. I however sell bags on e-bay now and again and have a couple of brown bags left that are the length you like.
I'll probably be putting them on over the next couple of weeks.

I like mine over my shoulder too. Try Accessorise - I found a lovely one in there the other day.
Also, those cheap shoe shops usually have a good range of bags. Not the best quality in the world, but not bad.

Any of these places already mentioned. I suggest Penny's.
I bought a nice Duney & Berke on Ebay. I need a bag that stays on my shoulder, because when I go to work, I also carry a tote.

I always wear my bag on my shoulder.
I have found great bags at Nine West. There is a lot of variety. Any shoe store should also carry an assortment of bags.
Good luck!

I agree, my bags have mostly shorter straps which I can use on my shoulder but they keep falling down, it's so ANNOYING!
Allders usually sell quite a selection.

I hate that too. as if anyone holds it in their hand all the time, how impractical and uncomfortable. my last bag was from primark but the one before that was from ebay
