I think your question really is whether dry batteries (zinc-carbon) are poisonous as those two are important constituents. Carbon is harmless and even MnO2 is not really a terribly toxic substance, but the stuff that leaks out of the battery is very corrosive.

Well I'll put in some input to a few of these questions. 1.)I'm not sure on the Biological effects of CO, but even an atom difference can cause different elements and effects. Keep in mind almost everything in nature is made up of different amounts of Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, and Nitrogen. Single atom changes can completely change the properties of an element. 2.)The Catalytic Converter, based on common sense it must be taking the extra oxygen atom from the surrounding environment, there's not another explanation.
