Greetings!
First, we are definitely being manipulated by the media. They choose what how and when to cover what used to be news.
Furthermore, pay attention to a commercial called Briscoe High, to understand how non-public media is able to manipulate the way we eventually will conduct ourselves and societies. As for the media being liberal slanted, I believe that to be a mirage as most shows are conservative based.
Gee, if Bush really wants to torture people he should make them listen to Rush for three hours a day.
Secondly, counter powers? The revolution of course. This country will fall. No country in history has been able to go the distance, with various reasons and experiencing various results.
In my essay, "The decline and fall of the United States", I point the first major event where society becomes involved happening in the fifties. Then, a man could work minimum wage at the corner gas station, his wife could stay home and raise the children, who could walk home for lunch during the school day. Most important of all,....this man had the respect and admiration of the community. Look to where we have evolved today, an it speaks volumes.
Good Luck

Are we getting manipulated by mass media??
More so than in recent years, yes we are, to an extent. The media has a job of reporting the news that is happening around them, an repo accuarte news, which have facts to support the nes being delivered. I dont think there is enough of the media asking the right questions for whatever reason they dont, and there isnt enough reporting on the story's that matter and affect our world as a whole or as seperate nations.
I think that media is manipulated and used by the government in so many ways ......... whether it's to use it to get a political message across or threatened when they ask a government official a question about the war, etc... it's a lose lose situation.

governments are never honest maybe some start of with good intentions some are a lot worse than others people will support what they (see)as fair and its not to hard to influence them in whats fair and what s right or wrong an easy way to influence peoples perception is is by scaremongering and then controlling the media to feed there fears and produce a target for them to direct their bad feelings at and human nature will do the rest its like Chinese whispers every one passing the story on makes it a bit worse and the more storeys the more familiar till they think its their own thoughts but the easiest ones are the type of people that have already been programed to believe that they have to live by a certain set of values religious communities is the best example persuade them its to protect there faith and their way of life and they hang on to every spin and lie that the government tells them not because they are evil but its the only way they know the only way to stop all this is by forcing them to see whats happening to the point where they cant deny it and as they think every ones against them it would have to come from their own

A free press doesn't mean you will get objective news reporting. The fact that the news organizations in the USA have been merged into only a few large companies controlling what you hear slants the news to the opinions of the few. Rather than reporting the news, the news media is interpreting the news. You are only being manipulated if you accept the reported news as fact. It is best to listen to an outside news agency like the BBC to get unbias news reports about world affairs.

The mass media is definitely trying to manipulate people. With such a wide reach they do have a lot of influence.
Counter powers would be through the voice of the people, not just through the media of internet, but also through boycotting the mainstream media and demanding higher standards of independent and free investigative journalism free of propaganda.

To quote one of the best in the business when it comes to manipulation, Adolf Hitler, "If you say a lie long enough, no matter how big, people will believe it". Of course we're being manipulated, both parties want us to be on their side, so they are only going to show us good things. Don't even get me started on the media. What a sludge machine.

Many are manipulated by the MSM. The answer is in education, logic and avoidance of the pack mentality. Political correctness is a MSM invention, most social problems are and coddling of terrorists is one of their favorites. As for government, it has one duty and one duty only. To protect us from enemies, not to be our nanny. If more people would rely on being self-sufficient rather than looking for a nanny, many issues would become vapor.

The News Media has always had a liberal agenda. It's always been propaganda.
But there's new kids in town.
One can get the truth from Radio Talk Shows such as Rush.
And the truth from Fox News.

1-The media is firmly behind the liberal agenda and is trying to under-mine the government and our efforts to fight terrorism.
2-Truth is the only weapon the Republicans has to battle the media propaganda efforts.
