Hi Andy,
A new acting prime minister is scheduled to be appointed this coming weekend so it will be interesting to see what happens, and whether they will make any formal decisions before new elections - which could be up to one year away.
Bangkok hasn't seen any trouble yet but the advice from the British Embassy for British citizens living or visiting is to remain vigilent, just as you would in many places around the world these days.
The troubles in the South are a worry for everyone in Thailand, even though they must seem distant for people in the north of the country. They have an affect on everyone - not least because of the worries they are causing to potential visitors and investors.

That is for the new prime minister to decide if they get to it. Southern Thailand with the Muslim is a touchy subject. Fortunately, it has been quiet since the coup. Fortunately, the General who initiated the coup is Muslim and well liked by the King and many in the military. It will be wait and see for a while.

Taksin was playing hardline with the Muslims in the south. That was not working.

Wait and see.

No idea. The country people in the north east care little for the people in bangkok and vice-versa. So the army is unlikley to score any political points if they did pull out in the South.
