No offence intended but I have heard weird rummors like Jewish Women shave their heads, go to secret spa's and wear wiggs. I say is all a fabrication. But I just wanted to throw the question out there. I am trying to learn more details about daily life in different faith, so no offence intended, just curiosity!

As Salaamu Alaikum,
Actually this is true of orthodox Jewish women once they marry. The women do "cover" as do the men.According to Rabbi Dr. Menachem M. Brayer (Professor of Biblical Literature at Yeshiva University) in his book 'The Jewish woman in Rabbinic literature', it was the custom of Jewish women to go out in public with a head covering which, sometimes, even covered the whole face leaving one eye free [22]. He quotes some famous ancient Rabbis saying,"It is not like the daughters of Israel to walk out with heads uncovered" and "Cursed be the man who lets the hair of his wife be seen....a woman who exposes her hair for self-adornment brings poverty." So, many women shave off their hair and wear wigs - this is a fact, particularly among the orthodox sects of Judaism. Remember, when women "cover" it really speaks of their strength of faith in their Lord and Creator and in their strength of character to wear it even in a society hostile and ignorant of covering

To the previous poster...just because you "know" Jewish people doesn't mean you are aware of whether or not they are practicing, orthodox, humanistic, secular or reformed Jews. Each have their way of maintaining (or not) the traditions of their faith. This is the same for Muslims and all people.

As far as I know this is done by extremely orthodox Jews, I once read a book about Jewish way of life in villages in East Europe in past and read this and I read it is also done by a minority of Jews in Israel who still follow the way of life from these days and who are very radical in religious matters. They also have such ideas like they are not allowed to keep anything in their pockets on Sabbath because this would mean the "work of carrying something". It is the same in other religions that not everyone has same ideas and same "strictness" of religious practise, e.g. in Islam there are people who say that women must cover their body completely and wear a burqa while most say this is exaggerated and is not a rule of Islam.
And about "secret spa" i think it means the religious bath in Judaism, I forgot what is the name for it, but there is an idea of ritual washings in a special bath in Judaism. I don't know how far this is practised by Jews nowadays. By the way you see the idea of the use of water in ritual way also exists in Christianity in the form of baptism and as far as I know the origin for this is a ritual bath that Jesus (who was Jewish) took.

Actually, Jewish women are supposed to cover their hair, same as Muslim and Christian women are supposed to. Some of the more conservative actually do. One approach to hair covering is to cover the hair with an artificial wig. (I totally don't get it, but if it works for them, ok.)

At one time Christians said that Jews had horns, perhaps that's where the wig thing came about.
