In the 40's in Britain Dame Vera Lynn was known as "The Forces Sweetheart" because of her regular radio broadcasts to soldiers during World War II.
The 1950's were the era of Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russell and Diana Dors. (Sophia Loren was more 1960's).
