The problem with TrueCrypt seems to be that the encrypted files can only be viewed on computers with the key. I need to use this at school where you can't install any software. Any suggestions?

TrueCrypt. It is free, open source disk encryption software.

You can purchase encryption software that is specifically made for such devices. My favorite is StompSoft's Portable Vault. This will allow to easily encrypt and protect files on your drive.
