They should declare it on the Visa form on the plane, better still confirm it's ok with US Embassy.
Not putting it on there can get them into real trouble, there was a English man a few years ago who was arrested and deported because he failed to declare a conviction from the early 1950s resulting from a fight in a pub. I would suppose given the current security clamp down, they may be even more vigilant with failure to declare details.

The Americans like to know about previous convictions not necessarily for reasons of visa refusal but to assist their decision making. A 25 year old conviction seems unlikely to be a reason for refusal of a visitor visa. Your friend should ensure that she discloses the conviction, though.

I understand that the only problem is for someone who has served a prison sentence for over one year. Your friend's sentence was 'spent' long ago, but she'd better declare it if the wording on the immigration form insists on details of all convictions, spent or otherwise.

Should not be a problem, unless the US have decided they have enough squeaky clean people at the moment. 25 years is a long time - your friend seems very unlikely to re-offend.

Criminal records are being asked on the application form and could be checked but will not prohibit one from being given a visa.

She will have to declare it, no matter how long ago it was. Best to call the American consulate in London and ask before travel. She should be okay though. Good Luck!

They will let her in as long as she swears allegiance to all fundamentalist redneck values and doesn't wear a hijab.
