Steam therapy? why is everyone suggesting alternative therapy as first-line treatment? I am all for alternative medicine but first you must have a proper diagnosis by a specialist, in this case a dermatologist and at least listen to the offered treatment, it can prevent a lot of discomfort for your child.

"white spots" is not informative enough to make a diagnosis, the doctor will have to see the child and possibly make a skin biopsy. However since you said that they increased with steam therapy (i.e heat and humidity) i would consider the possibility of pityriasis versicolor which is a type of fungal infection common in hot humid conditions. This will require an antifungal cream to treat. It could also be any other simple fungal infection such as tinea corpis.

Psoriasis can also appear as white-grey scaly patches on the body. Vitiligo also appears as loss of pigmentation from the skin, especially on the back of the hands, wrists, elbows and knees.

Only a dermatologist and proper tests can determine what your son has. Please get a specialized opinion before indulging in home treatment, for your child's safety and happiness. Take care and good luck

While spot, generally known as "Pandu", is a loss
of pigmentation of the skin. There is treatment
for it in Ayurveda. Consult a good physician or
write to:

The Chief Physician
Kottackal Arya Vaidya Sala Pvt Ltd
Kottackal PO, Malappuram Dist
Kerala State

Please also make sure your child feels when
touched on the spot with small cottonwool.
If there is no loss of sensation, there is nothing
to worry. If there is loss of sensation on the
white spot, then consult an Allopathic Doctor.

In growth stage, it generally happens with children
for want of nutrients. Please consult a good doctor
as aforesaid. Take it easy. Nothing to worry.

I have a 2 year old daughter also, she is pretty good about brushing her own, but I dont feel like she does a sufficient job, so I trick her, as soon as she's done, I tell her what I good job she did, then I tell her to show me her teeth, she is very proud and flashes the biggest smile she can revealing all of her teeth. I grab the tooth brush real quick while all of her teeth are exposed and I finish up the job, she doesn't like that much...it may sound mean, but it is necessesary for good dental health.

It could be Vitiligo - which is not dangerous, but can be emotionally upsetting. Bring him to a dermatologist to be sure.
