I suggest:
(a) "informed answers" which are usually lengthy and data-driven by people who have knowledge of (or research) the subject; (b) "experiences" by people who have actually observed/been there/done it, which may not add data, but add to the richness of the answers
Note: (a) & (b) can appear in the same answer!
In contrast, a hasty (short) answer does not really add anything to the discussion, unless it is VERY, VERY witty and imho should not warrant any points at all. (Double points if it makes me rofl or lmao, or even roflmao :)

I think the best etiquette for answering questions on here is common sense, I think we all know which are the genuine ones that really do need help and if you have the answer to their problem then give the advice, some are just good fun questions that give us all a good old belly laugh, some are just crazy, but even they can be given an answer, the only wasted answer is one that isn't given and the only wasted question is the one not asked, we all like a good laugh at times and this site is great for that.

I think that you are making life complicated without that being a requirement in the circumstances. Is it bad form to use abbreviations when some people will not understand what the hell you are talking about, or is it the answerer that is the transgressor for not making the effort to research their meanings before addressing the question?
In the main, rules of etiquette fly out the window at the earliest opportunity on Yahoo Answers - so, should we try to educate the peasants in the ways of refinement, or would our noble efforts be pearls before swine to these ingrates?
Shall we keep it simple? - no to the rude and obnoxious, apart from that, anything goes. Sometimes, brevity (even ill educated and badly written) just hits the spot.
Did I answer the question or veer off on a tangent?

Unless one is just looking for an easy 2 points with no intention of or even trying to answer the question do not submit an answer.
Some of the so called witty answers to what are perceived to be silly questions are always, without exception just so not funny. The witty answer is in the persons head and might sound good to him but in the cold light outside his head it flops.
A silly question should not be given any answer.
Finally if you do answer at least answer in English and not use unknown abbreviations this goes also for the questioner, and check the spelling as some that you see is awful. eg I no him, should be, I know him.

I guess then It's gotta be in the format you choose. I generally answer as best I can with life experiences but If there's one I really cant answer but feel I need to address the problem, I will say something with sympathy attached.
Its just the way I am. If people ask silly questions, I give them a humerous silly answer. I suppose it depends on the nature of the question.

Usually I try to give a brief description and add links for further and more detalied informations.
I find pretty lame to copy and paste from Wiki or other enciclopedias.
On the other side, at stupid questions I respond with even more stupid answers.

The best method in answering any questions on this site is to do it with no vulgarities. A sincere answer with no sarcasm is always good, but not always possible.

I don't think you need our help with anything. You provided all your own answers. Well Done.
I just read the answers and enjoy. Good, bad and indifferent. It's just a laugh. Right?

I think you need to worry about what goes into the questions you ask, instead of analysing the answers.

Not much point in answering as you seem to have made your mind up about the answer already ...
