Heaps of people think that they've found the love of their life but when a relationship doesn't work out and you find someone knew, we just fall in love all over again. Why can't their just be the one person that we're meant for?

Love is something I never could fathom, much as I want to. But I guess that is just what love is - forever a mystery. The moment I am able to give a definition to it then I guess love ceases to be what it is.

I like your Question, because defining Love is a very personal thing.
In the “Road less Travelled”: Love is "the will to extend oneself for the purpose of nurturing one’s own and another’s spiritual growth. When we grow, it is because we are working at it because we love ourselves. It is through our love for others that we elevate ourselves. Love is the extension of the self; it is the very act of evolution. >It is evolution is progress."
This is the definition that i really like and choose to believe.

Falling in love is consciously or unconsciously motivated. Falling in love is invariably temporary. I.e. the feeling of ecstatic lovingness that characterises the experience passes. You know that feeling of wanting to be with that person 24/7 that you get at the beginning of relationships? That always goes after a while, because it is a chemical reaction in your body. It doesn't usually last longer than 2 years. After that the "love" you have for that person will be more like the answer to the first part of the question.

Attraction is based on the assumption that another person has something good to bring into your life. When you fall in love, you fall for a mirror of your most present needs.

Why can't their just be the one person that we're meant for? There can be if you want to believe that it is true. But relationships are about growing into better people, and if your partner doesn't grow at the same speed as you or in the same way as you, then that is when people have issues. Hopefully love prevails in these situations and you become better people for having lived through that problem together.

I hope this is of help.

Here is a little secret that my grandma shared with me. When I was young I asked how she knew grandpa was the one for her. She smiled and said child when you meet the right one, you just know. When I started dating, I thought she was nuts. Was she? No. She was right. I just knew, I went out with my now husband twice. I just knew he was the one. There are so many people in the world some will have some of the things we are looking for, but there is only one that can be your soulmate. When you meet that person, you can finish their sentences without even really knowing them. Everything just seems to fall into place.

Because we sometimes have the chemistry but have nothing in common. Love happens all the time. It's our job to make sure we try to find the person who is right for us before we get in too deep. This is why it is best to get to know someone before we become intimate. It is better to get to know how they react to certain situations.
