You might consider Hosteria Romana Ristorante. It's a fun place where the waiters truely love their jobs. The walls are covered with messages from visitors from all over the world. It's loud, not fancy, but the food is very good - especially the seafood. It's on Via del Boccaccio 1. Right up the street from Piazza Barberini. A line forms outside on weekends so you're advised to arrive early.

PS - avoid eating at Piazza Navona. While the setting is beautiful, the food is poor and expensive. Go there after dinner for some espresso or a drink.

We had a wonderful meal at Canova, a restaurant on the Piazza del Popolo.
Also very good food in the Piazza Navona. We ate at the Cafe Barocco twice. Also, the Piazza is a wonderful place to people watch. And across the piazza is one of the best gelato shops in town. I think it is Tre Scalini.
