I would like to buy a car that is economical in terms of fuel... i.e. diesel. I would also like to know the CSD (Canteen stores Dept.) price for the car. In my opinion, Tata Indica would be most appropriate here. however, i have heard that its not a good deal in the long run. my only concern is the fuel, as we travel a lot, and offcourse the budget as well, which is strictly 3 lakhs. Please suggest, what would be the best option for me here (including the 2nd hand ones). Also, would anybody be knowing the CSD price for Tata Indica.

Probably a new Indica is the best. But I suspect whether it will be available for Rs. 3 lakhs, even at the CSD price. You better check it up with some officials in the dept(I'm an automobile engineer and I'll be better off with making a few suggestios). A second hand car may be more viable. Try the Zen diesel, Siena TD60, Palio 1.9 D, Accent diesel(DLS not CRDI), Ikon 1.8D and Lancer D. The Zen will be well within your budget. It is light and fuel efficient. However it is noisy, cramped, but reliable and easy on maintainance.

Yes u are right, tata indica is the appropriate car as u want a diesel car. I am little bit worried that it just may be out of 3lakhs(ie 3.25 -3.50 lakhs). hence u can go for a 2nd hand indica which would fit in ur budget perfectly. u can get a car which has not runned more. its a great car for long runs it gives an average of about 18 on highways without AC. so go for a tata indica v2 wihout any concerns.
