I don't know how much foreign news are shown in U. S. media, but I guess it's the same as elsewhere. In my country's news shows only 5 minutes are dedicated to foreign news out of the 25 minutes.
As mentioned above, a reason for this is that people are more interesed in local news, as they are affected more by those.
Also, the U. S. A. has a great cultural impact on the world, so it gets a bigger attention if Bush spares a turkey's life at Thanksgiving Day (which is only celebrated there and most of us have no idea what it's all about) than the ongoing military conflicts in Afriac, for example.

One has to assume people just aren't that interested. A kid down a well often trumps a "real" story even when it comes to domestic news, so I doubt more world news would be a ratings winner. TV is passe in any case, the news cognoscenti get their info from the Internet.

it somewhat is the broadcasting companies' source of earnings. in the US, to illustrate, our broadcast television channels sell air time to companies who want to sell their products on television as their source of working gross sales. yet, the BBC does not sell air time. So, they had to make your innovations up a thank you to can charge people who actual watched television for the stay broadcast indicators, on a similar time as not charging somebody who would not watch or maybe very own a television. the government then costs you a license value in case you very own a television, and that they don't can charge somebody the license value in the event that they don't very own a television or they purely use it for gazing issues like DVDs.. And, they might tell if somebody has a television, through fact an working television places out decrease frequency indicators in the course of the demodulation technique (turning television indicators into photograph and sound). it is one way the government can tell once you're "stealing" the television indicators devoid of paying the cost (a minimum of that delivers them grounds for further study).

I don't know why this is so but it could be the reason as to why so many Americans are ignorant to the world outside of their own country. It is annoying to the rest of the world and unfortunately many believe that Americans are oblivious to anything that isn't american. When I answered that I was from Australia for example to many Americans, I often got a response of "Oh that's where Arnold is from" LOL.. no thats Austria! or worse... I got a lot of people asking where is Australia? It is only one of the worlds continents!! I think its amusing myself, but many people outside of the US find this attitude infuriating and so Americans are often referred to as stupid because of it.

There's a monopoly on media, I think. Also, if more Americans had or chose to have access to more foreign media, they'd see things very differently indeed!
