Mathematics is a part of daily practice in nursing as used in the following:
*Knowing your total census needs math.
*Drugs and all medications doses calculations needs math.
*Intravenous fluids and other fluids calculations needs math.
*Time of giving medications need math.
*Recording the fluid balance (intake and output) needs math.
*Vital signs checking, recording and monitoring are related to math.
* Monitoring devices calibrations are related to math.
*Calculation of age of gestation (pregnancy) needs math.
*Calculation of expected date of delivery needs math.
*Ovulation period estimation calculation and other obstetrical related factors needs math.
*ECG Monitoring interpretations needs math.
*Checking for the patient's diet with the caloric requirement needs math.
*Interpreting laboratory results involves math.
*Expect conversion of units every now and then and it need math.
*Keeping the supplies and stocks in the unit needs math.
*Etc.,etc.,etc.
You see, there are lots of things in nursing requiring math though it has been made easier for nurses this days, obviously with the use of computer and computerized machines plus all charts and tabulated calculations and values are provided. Other allied health workers had also decreased the load from the nurses job. However nurses should realize that knowing mathematics is very releavant part of the profession not to work like robots do.
Lastly, not to forget to mention that nurses need math to know the number of hours they work and how much pay they get.

A nurse has to know the weight and height of the pts to distribute there meds. IV's for example how would they know what to set the drip on. Add, subtract, multiple, divide and some percentages is mostly what a nurse has to be able to do. What a nurse really needs to be able to do is read and comprehend because they do allot of reading orders and charting and I guess a good speller would be a plus

i have no idea what your asking in this question because you question makes no sense if you asking where in the nursing profession can nurses use mathmatics then the answer is administering medicine. alot of meds are given by a patients weight so yuo have to do calculations to figure out how much meds a patient should have i hope this helps

Nursing is a science, therefore requiring math skills. In nursing, the metric system is used far more than any other field. Calculating meds, with height and body weight, fluid intake and output, vital signs (blood pressure, pulse and respiration), etc.

To calculate doses of medications. To convert from the standard unit of measurement to metric units. To tell how long you have been on break and when you will get another one. :)
Math is used alot in the medical field. I use it all the time, and I am surprised everyday how many applications it has. Mostly you will be using basic arithmetic, but I use algebra and geometry on occasion.
Get comfortable with math and you will have less problems when you do have to use it in an emergency. Trust me on this.

In dishing out pills and the like - I'd prefer that nurses were numerate, but then I'm old fashioned and think that they should be literate too... ("...were nurses can use..."?)

daily, when you have to assess your patients intake and out take fluids, measured in cc's. the math is not complicated, but u do add, subtract, divide,multiply, & convert. there are many calculations involved in nursing, but depending on your position, your job may not require you to do as much. hope this helps. i had those same questions before i started.

nurses have to be able to give the correct amount of mediacation for a person based on their weight and height.
