Being a male I simply dont understand it but I would imagine an overwhelming instinct kicks in as it does with animals that do this.Do these women get punished? because we never hear what happens afterwards. Personally I believe they should receive counselling and support

It really does depend on the country & the circumstances surrounding the abandonment.

In villages in China there is an overwhellming amount of babies abandoned near shops etc becuase of the strict rules the government has set out over there. I mean it is ridicullous really but I'm not living there Thank god. Families are allowed to have 2 childern 1 boy & 1 girl. I know it is slowly changing but if you had 2 boys & then a girl the girl would be taken and killed. No mother could allow that to happen to their child so if they abandont ehm then they would be put in an orphage - Not ideal but they would be alive.

I assume you are talking about less populated countries like America. United Kingdom Ireland etc?? Again it depends ont he situation. If a mother left her child in hope it would be found & looked after better than she could look after it then she would get serious councelling & support.

If it is a case that the mother left her baby for selfish reasons then she too would recive councelling but she would also recieve jail time.

It is very hard to judge these things in my opinion. I am a mother myself & I couldn't think of abandoning my child for any reason.except life of death!

They can be punished dependant on how the child was abandoned and the danger it may have been in, some do receive counselling and support, others end up on the at risk register for any future children.. But we need to ask, where are the fathers? it is an emotive question you ask and can be complex to answer.
Working with women who have almost all had children taken into care or given up children due to neglect- you need to hear the whole story. This is often not told in newspapers.. I could not and have never abandoned my children- how ever difficult things have been, but we cannot assume every one is the same or has the same coping strategies.. But it takes two to have a child and often the fathers are no where to be seen.

I agree they need help. Can you even begin to imagine what's going through their minds when, after carrying a baby for 9 months, they are driven to abandon it - it must be the hardest thing they've ever had to do in their lives. I only wish they would 'abandon' them in a hospital, though, to avoid any perishing in inappropriate places.

it's more than punished..... Nightmares for the rest of life......
Anyhow yes its sick leaving babies just like that....... But not all women get caught with their unmoral act. And of course there's counsellings and psychiatry involved

I suppose for most of them it's punishment enough, It's a hard question to answer, but I'm glad they didn't counsel my mon, she dumped me twice.I can't bare to imagine what it would have been like to be raised by her.

I believe they have something called the safe haven rule. You can take your baby to a fire station or a hospital and no questions asked.
