When we've drained the Earth of oil and used up all reserves we'll be in big trouble! Life as we know it will slowly, (or maybe not so slowly) come to an end. Oil is used in SO many things that we use every day and take for granted, from the obvious, (petrol etc) to the likes of TVs and industries and would stop all together unless a substitute is found. It would be back to the old horse and cart, make your own food from scratch and all that. It's scary.

Oil has been the provider of energy for only a relatively short time, a couple of hundred years. The rapid development of science has been fueled by oil (forgive the pun) by the generation of rapid transport, electricity and power. The earth does not have an infinite supply of oil so that is why experiments are, and have been, taking place to find renewable and sustainable alternatives. This could be solar power, hydro-electric or wave power but one thing is certain. If the political climate of the planet stays roughly as it is now, then come the time that the oil runs out there will probably be great conflicts to obtain the last drops and the Arab nations will be dropped like hot potatoes. The countries that suffer most will be those that are part of large continents and inland ones since if wave power is utilised the most efficient countries will be smaller islands and those bordering the oceans. Solar power will be best generated in sunny countries nearer the equator so countries in the extreme north and south will suffer adversely. No doubt there will be a population migration and there is bound to be a climate change as the level of greenhouse gasses drops with the cessation of the use of oil and fossil fuels. This will make the planet colder with a corresponding expansion of the poles.

not! Oil is the earth's lymphatic system. it would be impossibly to ''drain'' all the oil out of the Earth, because it is constantly renewing it's supply. Every living ''organic'' life form contains a certain percent oil which goes back to earth as it dies.. Humans have made thier recycling process harder by being burried in vaults or cremated, but even CO2, and every carbon, passes through being a 'fat' or oil at one time or another..
