I have made some awful mistakes and had some damned hard times and have become very hard and cruel, even to those who love me. I am doing my damndest to change my universe and to live in a place of peace, respect, and affection. I would welcome all (fairly short) creeds or mottoes from all faiths or personal opinions which I could use to cobble together a creed for living kindly and happily.
Wiccans welcome, but to all who answer, I don't really want any gods or goddesses in my creed, thank you.
Thanks for your suggestions!

You see, it feels safer to live with fire and swords in your heart, and I'm a fire and swords kinda girl, but I would really like to be a smiles and peace kind of person. The transition is bloody hard though.

Here's mine:
Live your life. You probably only have one, and when it's over it's over. So live it well.
Live ethically. Do things that you think are the right things. Refuse to do things you think are wrong. You will end up liking yourself for it and so will everyone you touch.
Live truthfully. Lying is pointless. Lying is weakness. Lying hurts the liar and the lied to. Live truthfully and you'll have no need to lie.
Live well. Treat yourself well and others well and wellness will become all you know and all you give.

Your creed does not have to go beyond you and what you believe and who you want to be.. Getting rid of the anger can take some time. Often I have seen anger linked to fear - what are you afraid of? -
I am glad that you have recognized that being hard and cruel hurts you the most. Go out and do something nice for someone, even a stranger, even if it is just smiling and saying something pleasant - don't force it, and gradually it will become easier - - just the fact that you asked this question shows that there is a wonderful person inside wanting more air time.. Enjoy that person, share that person - and don't let others spoil the change..
Be sensitive to others. Be thoughtful. Do little kindnesses. You are on a great path.

I have had a very lucky life, and I put it down to the old proverb, 'do unto others as you would have done unto yourself'. I have always helped people wherever I can and I think that I have been repaid in kind. Be good to people and don't make enemies, bite off the insult or hurt that you might feel like inflicting and just walk away.

The simple old saying that has been around for ages. Simply do unto others as you would have them do unto you. And love thy neighbor as thyself. "Wherever I am, God is." And stop being your own worst enemy and so hard on yourself. How many of us can honestly say we haven't made awful mistakes or were cruel to people when we were wallowing in our own problems or self-pity, even if only by trying to spare them our pain. To live in peace with others, first you must be at peace with yourself. And the first step is forgiving yourself. You already have your own creed, you need no one else's; because you have already opened yourself up to bettering yourself and growing. Following and listening to what is in your own heart is all the guidance you will ever need. Loving yourself opens the door to genuinely loving all else that exists in this world.

"My creed is this: Happiness is the only good. The place to be happy is here. The time to be happy is now. The way to be happy is to help make others so."[Robert G. Ingersoll, Motto on the title page of Vol. xii, Works]

PLEASE LISTEN to what is being said, hay like the thiefs on the cross with Jesus we live in a world where there is A total death rate, we are ALL as good as dead, okay you have had some rough times, but like those thiefs if you are as good as dead how much do you really need, think those thiefs had a choice as do you, to accept what was in frount of them Christ and eternal life or turn it down, but IF you understand your true condition and understand your walking NOW in your own grave then perhaps in your "creed" you will turn to Him and be saved, For GOD [the Father] "SO" LOVED YOU that He gave [Jesus Gave Himself] so IF you will but "BE-LIVE in Him should not perish but have everlasting life Jn 3:16, "IF" you love Him keep His commandments Jn 14:15, and IF you love Him enough to keep His commandments [not suggestions by the way] you will love Him enough to be in Heaven with Jesus and me, if not you won't, and either way it won't matter right? May I be granted the courage to change the things I can, the serenity to accept what I cannot change, and the wisdom to know the difference.
This has gotten me through some pretty rough stuff. Good luck and may you always be blessed.
