I read something about this yesterday...
1. You can find a ring she wears on that finger and take it to the jeweler.
2. You can use a piece of string (while she is sleeping) to wrap around her finger and mark where it's meets. This is a good idea ONLY if she is a heavy sleeper.
3. Ask a gf, if you can trust her. Sometimes friends try on each others jewerly or buy each other jewerly.
4. You can playfully put your hands together and see how big or small her finger is in relevance to yours. When you talk to a jeweler they can give you a good idea. This is the least accurate but if all else fails... Jewelers are usually very good at what they do, so they should be able to help you estimate.

Good Luck!! Hope this helps a little!

PS I really like the idea above... about playfully tieing a string around her finger. Then taking it off and pretend to toss it. If you two are really goofy this could work. My bf does stupid stuff all the time, so anymore I ignore him and just laugh at him for being silly.

Do they currently wear a ring? If so, say can I see that...then slip it on your finger memorize where it is on your finger.
This is how my now hubby did it. If they don't wear one, take a piece of string, tie it in a bow around the finger, not too tight not to loose. Make sure it will slide over the knuckle. Then just leave it there for a minute or two, say something silly about the bow or what not. Then lay it aside. When they aren't paying attention, pocket the string. He said he was bored was just messing around. Two weeks later he showed up with an engagement ring.

You really don't need to. Most rings come in an average size of 7 - then later it can be made larger or smaller.

Take another ring from their jewelry box and take it to their jeweler's. Just put it back the next day and hopefully they won't miss it.

go for a 9, then you can have it cut down. Unless of course she's very tiny. But 9 is a good start.
