I may have a case for citizenship in the US as my father registered me as a US citizen missing in Australia way back in 1948 and until 5 years ago this was the case. My father has since passed on and the only biological relatives I have are brothers and sisters all living in the US. My question is can I apply for either citizenship or immigration while in the US on vacation. I don't want to do anything illegal as I am aware how US citizens view illegals. I am having problems getting any sort of response here.

If your father registered you as a citizen, then he probably did it at a US consulate or embassy in Australia. So you may want to check there. Be sure to bring any documents you have showing that your father registered you, as well as proof of his US citizenship.
If you are still here in the US, the best bet is to consult an immigration attorney. Reputable ones can be found at www.aila.org
You can also try to read up on citizenship at www.uscis.gov

Hell, I don't know but you can always check with local government where you are vacationing and have them research the answer for you. As far as you wanting to immigrate at least you speak English so you'rer a step ahead of most.

I would try to make an appointment with an immigration attorney while here and see what they have to say. I don't know the laws and doubt that many here do. Sometimes they will give you a free consult...

you would have to contact a lawyer or read into the law.
it all depends on your date of birth, born in or out of wedlock, was your father born here or naturalized and when? go to uscis.gov and look up the N600 application and its instructions. the application is for persons who derived us citizenship.

the us gov has a website for immigration but I dont have it,also try www.immi.gov.au they could have some info or at least the website for the us.
