I believe spirits to be “intelligences”. Being able to think and act on their own. With that, they are always learning. Spirits are attached to your body while you’re here, so spirit has to work within the limits of the body. Therefore, if the body is damaged (like the brain), then the spirit is more limited; functional but limited. But, if the body ceases to function at all, then the spirit is separated for a time. Yes, a spirit does have a mind of its own, but requires a body to experience and learn about life. Hope this helps.

Before we came to this earth we lived as "Spirits" in the Pre-Mortal Spirit world. When we came to this Earth we received a body (for our spirit to reside in) a "veil" was placed over us, and we forget...After this Earth (at death) the body and the spirit seperate again...the body going to the grave and the spirit to the Post-Mortal Spirit World.

There will eventually be a resurrection where the body (a perfect body) and the spirit will be joined together forever.

a spirit is just another being, only not in its physical form. its the physical form that leads this spirit to temptation and the need for free will. thus, the spirit alone has no free will. the spirit is also what we call the mind.

syntax error.that should read( have). It would seem so by the wording of the Bible. This is where the battle of wills occurs in the mind and physical body happens . both have a measure of free will . the mind and soul knows the laws of GOD and the body and mind are after physical sensations that plea the body . you have to chose one or the other.and take the consequences.

Yes. It is when we are dead that the spirit takes off. This is the reason why we are taught to do good while living because our spirit have to go reap the rewards for the good deeds we've done while on earth. This is also why we are promised to have "eternal life."
