Here is a link on the microwave. Look under 'radiation'. The microwave radiation is non-ionized, so it does not have the cancer risks associated with ionizing radiation such as X-rays.

If you are exposed to microwave energy, it can cause severe burns. You'd probably feel the heat before you actually got injured, but I wouldn't recommend experimenting. :)
The door switches are designed to keep the oven from running with the door open. If you open the door while it's cooking, that eventually ruins the switches. You should always press STOP before you open the door instead.
For more information on diagnosing and replacing door switches, see my text file below.

you would cook yourself. really. but the power drops of by the 4th power of the distance from the microwave, so you gotta be pretty close, also microwaves like certain shapes to resonate in. There was a woman who's microwave door latch was broken, but she used it anyway, a good deal of times, while standing close to it, the microwave liked the shape of her intestine,, so surgery was in order to remove the medium rare part. Really. you asked,, it's true. throw it out, before some one microwaves there head.

I think if you did it once or twice it wouldn't hurt anyone....the original guy who discovered microwave...discovered it by having the chocolate bar in his pocket melt without him feeling an overwhelming amount of heat.
