i know that the question is correct but how do i answer it?
example:
question: "don't you have any idea for this,john?"
if i do have an idea,which is the correct answer please?
is it a "yes" or a "no"?

no would be the response....
the way you should answer though is... "No, I do have an idea"
if you just reply "no" they think you don't have anything.
the question is basically negative with the "don't" so the opposite of that question you would have to respond in the negative to make it positive...
you know two negatives make a positive... that crap from school
if you said yes... you are wrong... if you put the answer into the question it becomes
"Yes, you don't have any ideas for this, John?"

Technically, you should say, "No, I don't not have an idea." However, as this would just confuse people, your best course of action would be simply to say, "Don't I not look like the type of person who wouldn't have an answer?"
