No and i believe all people that use these breed of dog for security reasons need to be looked into to make sure people are safe, I have Rottweiler so does my family including my sister who getting a puppy in 2 weeks time. My dog is 2Y's old and is like a soft baby, she does let strangers know (just like every dog) that she is in the house, and she has got a aggressive bark, when she in the house all she wants to do is be stroked and loved and she is very relax dog with kids, I would never got this breed of dog if i know i was putting my child or anyone at risk, my mother got a jack Russel and trust me that little thing is more aggressive and nipping at people then my dog as growled nasty. Its all to do with how they bring dogs up. just because its a big breed should not put them all the same. if that the case then ALL dogs should be banned.

No. Owner's who get a Rottweiler for the purpose of making themselves look big should be banned.
A Rottweiler is a wonderful dog as long as it has a owner who understands its breed and is willing to train it well.

If you're referring to the 5 month old baby which died following an attack from two rottweilers - then NO the dogs are not the problem - it is the parents of the toddler.
ANY animal - be it a rothweiller or a hamster is capable of attacking. Therefore an owner needs to be responsible for their pet and take whatever measures need be taken to ensure that they are kept securely and safely. Having owned doberman pinchers and german shepards - my family always ensured that NO person outside our immediate family could get access to these animals - they were kept securely behind locked gates where they had access to roam freely.
It bothers me that these animals will now be named "killers" - not all rottweilers can be classed in the same catagory of these two dogs which carried out the attack.
Its the owners need to be assessed here - an animal is only as good as their owners - these dogs cannot be held responsible for being allowed roam the streets etc - its the owners who have to prevent it.

You dont say why you are asking this question - in any case my response is NO they should not be banned - I have grown up with Dobermans and Rottweilers and I have spent 5 years as an obedience instructor where we had heaps of both breeds - for the most part Rotty's are a beautiful animal - some females have trouble controlling them if they are not trained as they can be quite strong but they are just big teddy bears...

I know of some Rotty's that are trained as guard dogs and in this case you should definately stay away from them as they are trained to be vicious if they dont know you however this isnt their breed but how they were trained.

It really does depend on any dogs upbringing and training as to how it behaves.

Would you have asked this question 2 days ago?

A well trained rottweiler is a joy to be around.

Most reported dog bites in the UK come from labradors. Should they be banned too?

While we're on the subject, let's ban dogs altogether. And cars, buses and lorries and trains. And electricity, that can be dangerous if misused too.

I'm being facetious because it's difficult to take your question seriously.

DOES THIS SOUND LIKE A DANGEROUS DOG TO YOU?

Temperament
The Rottweiler is basically a calm, confident and courageous dog with a self-assured aloofness that does not lend itself to immediate and indiscriminate friendships. A Rottweiler is self-confident and responds quietly and with a wait-and-see attitude to influences in his environment. He has an inherent desire to protect home and family, and is an intelligent dog of extreme hardness and adaptability with a strong willingness to work, making him especially suited as a companion, guardian and general all-purpose dog.

The fault, as usual, lies in how you treat your dog. Every living being has the right to live in dignity, and responds well to dignity. Sometimes that means you cannot have an animal as a pet. Other times, it means giving it the care, love, and attention an animal needs. If you cannot provide these, even your child can turn out to be an ax murderer, why shouldn't a dog? It is a reflection on the human, not on the canine.

Of course not!
It is completely ignorant of people to believe one specific type of dog is dangerous.
If you use the same argument, should we then be destroying man due to the case of say, Ian Brady? Then of course, lets kill woman because of Hindley. Would that leave the children, no I don't think so, the two evil little twats that killed the little boy Bulger, that would see to the children. So no-one would be left!!!
We have all read reports about devil dogs and the like and as many people have stated, the owners have to take a lot of responsibility but I do believe that just like people, you can, no matter what, just have a bad dog, no matter what breed. The only difference is, unlike people, if this is spotted, then the dog can be put down.

No. Irresponsible breeding of Rottweilers should be banned. The dogs themselves are generally nice animals. It is the owners who make them the way they are. There are also occurrences where aggressiveness is bred into the animals which is why they get a bad reputation.

NO i have 3 lovely dogs 2 of them are rottweilers, in the wrong hands any dog is vicious not just the rottweiler breed, no matter what size the dog is terrrier or great dane,
my dogs are not aggressive or vicious, they are loyal lovable and make great companions,
but i will be buying them muzzles to wear when out walking now , not because they need them because of all the bad press and to reasure people while out walking my dogs

No they shouldn't. My dad has a rottweiller and I have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, both are notorious dogs for being savage but both are soft as muck.

The question I want to ask about the tragic death of the 5 month old killed by 2 Rottys is 'Why was the baby left unattended with 2 guard dogs???????'
