I've read all the answers, but the best explanation was from the link which was provided to me. Let me say that the marriage of Aisha and Muhammad could have truly been beautiful. I understand the politics of the marriage, and I also see how the marriage of Aisha and Muhammad educated Aisha, beyond any expectation of any Muslim woman, or person for that matter, BUT there is one BIG problem. If Muhammad did take the so called noble, sublime act of marrying a girl, not because of attraction, but to strengthen ties between all muslims. Why did he still take the liberty of having sex with her? If he loved her like a daughter I don't care if he slept with her at age 30 that's still sick and twisted. The fact is he did sleep with Aisha at age 9. That's a big problem. Muhammad sleeping with Aisha completely obliteterates the 'sublime' factor of his intentions. I can't see any defense to that, it's sick, and it should at least be admitted as an unexplainable flaw to Islam

All I can say is God works in mysterious ways. Islam's main goal is to prepare humanity for the afterlife. What will their marriage be like in the life after death? Her father willingly gave his daughter to the Prophet and Aisha was quite "jealous" of the other wives. She loved the Holy Prophet very much.

Today's world is nothing like the world of old, especially when taken from a western perspective. It's not considered strange for many cultures of the world that this marriage took place. You have to take into account that Islam was sent down as a religion for all of the world's cultures, not just yours. If your heart is not open to Islam's message, then you will waste a lot of time spinning your wheels on such issues... making them into something they are not. I suggest you take a coarse on world cultural anthropology before you pass judgment based on your limited experiences growning up in western culture.

No body in India, Pakistan, Africa, China, Middle East, Native American cultures and many other cultures will raise an eye brow to this subject. Is it your self-rightousness (as a society) that you need to make this an issue, dehumanising the founder of our faith and belittling the decision of Aisha's parents? Her parents were never forced to give up their precious daughter.

We will not admit any such flaw in Islam, more it is a flaw in your understanding of human culture outside of your own and a flaw in your logic (as a culture) and it is your narrow mindedness in accepting the traditions and norms of people outside of your comfort zone.

peace

First of all, we'd like to say that marriage is something which people would see happening, or happened. But how about sexual relationship between a husband and a wife? Is this an established truth that sex takes place just after marriage? Marriage is a contract which justify a man and a woman as husband and wife. Even after this contract, Aisha still remained with her parents. She was sent to prophet's house when she was 15 or more. This matter is disputed,
but most evidence support that it was no less than 15.

I'd give you another link, which talks about your question:

Islam and Christian/western are too different in generalising justification.
Muhammad married Aisha is legal binded by her own father Abu Bakar As-Siddiq and big relatives with a proper tradition on that time.
Muhammad is already have wives but all of them are widows.
And Aisha is already puberty since at that time. Arabs tradition allows a young daughter married with a matured guy.
Aishah is the last wives that he married until he died at age 63. But Aishah is the youngest and the last person that kept many hadiths that muslim used today.
Muhammad is the prophet and has been called Al-Amin, the thruthful and good person, he never lies.
Muhammad have good manners other than any people at that time since he is very polite to young Aishah. Sex is not his mind on that time but more on execution of what Allah order him to do.
Allah knows what the human dont know.

If you want to relate to western culture, adultery without marriage is just you eat snack watching TV.
Sex with child is also happened in western country even in Vatican City. Ask Pope then...

I'm not support child molester but the justification between muslim and western are too big variance. Islam will never be understand by westerner since they never ask themselves, are they really civillised just using their minds and drink alcohol.

Please consider that in Prophet Muhammad time, as in anywhere else in the world during the same stretch of time, a woman is considered available to marriage and its consummation as soon as she got her first menstruation, regardless of her age. The second reason is simply because a marriage should be consummated.
And I agree with Marissa.

well one thing is, it was normal back then to have underage marriage.

but again there is no evident fact that aisha was 9 when she was married. There's confusion whether she was 9 or 19.

lifes short dawg, get over it.move on.1400yrs ago.its over.Islam has evolved with the times.that is why there are so many defections from Christianity.evidently you've been studying so you should know that Islam is Perfect but Muslims are not.this thing was commanded of Him.if you dont like it or cant get on with your life you should know that on the day of regret every one will have enough concern of their own to make him indifferent to others.on the day when a mother flees from her daughter, and pregnant females drop their loads unformed you will not be thinking of 9 yr olds i can assure you.

as i told u that she lived with her parents until she was 14-15yrs old and then was SENT TO HER HUSBAND'S PLACE(Prophet's) as his LAWFULLY& LEGALLY WEDDED WIFE. and there were no physical relationships between them -- by the time of marraige and until she was with her husband by 15.

and who told u that Ayesha was a daughter to Muhammed-pbuh? i think someone really confused u, brother.

EDIT: why blame muslims -- why not blame all those people who incite anger in them? see it is very easy for me to defend back with many articles about other religions where even today in CIVILISED, EDUCATED SOCIETIES AND RELIGIONS women are TREATED worse than a crap. but it is Islam that teaches me to respect and tolerate others and their beleifs. i beleive in LIVE AND LET LIVE and also expect the same from the so--called civilised societies and its people.
