I have no clue. It's not from the motherland. I spent almost a year in Africa and never once met anyone with names like those. Sure, parents can name their children anything they want but it is curious.

Why is it your business? And do you really think you have the right to question anyone else b/c your son is "half black"??? I guess we are supposed to assume that you can't be racist b/c your son is "half black".
Honestly, this question makes you sound like an uncritical thinker (to put it politely). If you were a critical thinker, you'd know that people have different names as an expression of their culture or for entirely personal reasons.
"LaShawndra" is just as "ghetto" as "Apple Martin" and "Kaia Shae".
I'm not disparaging your child's name. (I do not use "ghetto" as a pejorative.) However, any 4 letter name w/ 3 vowels is certifiably ghetto. Trust me I'm "African American".

My first thought was "What are you really angry about?", so I checked your answers/profile and found that you listed your children's names as "Keegan Rhys (son)" and your daughter as "Kaia Shae" when answering a question.
I believe that you should seek counseling if you truly have a son that is black because you are truly angry about something that has nothing to do with "African American Names" but may have something to do with "African Americans".
Best of luck and God bless.

true story: an African American woman was pulled over for suspected DUI, in the backseat were her 3 daughters Champagne, Chablis, and Chardonnay.
so not every African American gives their children those kind of names

I think they just like to be different and I don’t see anything wrong with that. I have seen some pretty odd names but I’ve also seen some that are kind of cool

If you do not like them, then you shouldn't use them. That is like asking why do people from China use Chinese names and why do Indian people use Indian names.

Because that's their children and they have the right to name them whatever they want. That's your problem if you don't like those names.

not all of us give our kids those ghetto names... some of us give regular names, just that we are different and don't likethe traditional plain boring names.
