hi i have a couple of questions i really need to be answered since i never seem to get through the main line. my friend is in life for murder. i wanted to know if i had to sign any papers before hand or make an appointment to see him? & if sooo do i really have to be on his list to visit him? i doubt that he would remember to put me on the list. & my last question is how do i make an appointment if the lines are always busy? thanks a concerned friend.

Yes you MUST be on his visitors list, You can write him and ask him to put you on his list. Second it's not like the jail there for you will have to fill out a visitors form (he will have to send it to you) and you will have to return it and get approved by the prison before you can go visit. Then you will have to call them and make an appointment. When you get there make sure you follow all their rules other wise he will end up getting in trouble for it and will no longer have visitors for a while.

Here is web site forum for people who have friends, children, parents, loved ones in prison. You can join for free , read other peoples questions and ask your own and have people answer them who knows the answers for a fact. Some of the people have even been in prison their self. Good Luck!

Also if you don't already have his information to write him, do a search on google for the DRC for the state he is in. Once there seach his name. You will get his inmate number. However most of the time it's more the the inmate number you will need. You usually also need the bed and section they are in as well. Then of course the prisons address.

I have never heard of a judge mandating a mother to take her child to a prison for visitation. A prison environment for a six year old to be exposed to, does not seem to be in the best interests of the child. I hope this isn't California, where anything is possible. If I were in that mother's position, I'd be trying to mandate child support from behind bars. Too many men escape child support obligations by way of a jail sentence, especially if the conditions in jail are better than where they came from. Don't think so? Lots of baby mamas will tell you about the baby daddys behind bars and lots of times, the same baby daddy has chillins with many baby mamas. In my opinion, these clowns should be pounding out license places or working the rock piles 14 hours a day, and the hourly minimum wage earned sent right to the support collection unit to pay child support. In the meantime, this Mom may want to take the child to a psychologist and ask for an opinion letter recommending against prison visitation. This way if a liberal judge tries something like that, she beats him or her to the punch with that letter. If she doesn't think that will work, she should find a relative or friend out of state, and move with the child so that visitation becomes "moot."

Your friend would have to put in a request to add you to his list of approved visitors. I'm not sure, but the exact procedure may vary a little depending on the prison. I never visited anyone that was in for life or murder, and it's been a loooong time since I did visit anyone in prison. I don't remember exactly, but I think I had to sign some paperwork before I was approved to visit, but he had to send it to me.

Why would you want to visit a friend whom you say "doubt that he would remember to put me on the list"? How could you call someone who MAY forget, a friend?

yes they have to out u on a list, you have to be approved by DOC and checked out before you can visit and yes there are appropriate times and days for when you are allowed to visit, for each prison it is different (obviously) they usually do it by "pod" or "wing" or "house" where the prisoner is bunked...if you have his inmate number you can check his visitation schedule by phone (or should be) or you should be able to check it online...look up inmate database for whatever state you are in.....hope this helps.....
