I'm a generally nice guy, though a bit condescending at times. I don't consider myself shy because I don't have any type of social fear or anxiety, but I am introverted and calm. So many times, very shy girls just open up to me, without any real effort on my part. I don't know what it is about me that makes them want to tell me all their deepest thoughts and problems. This is problematic sometimes because I'm not always attracted to them and don't know how to let them down gently (I've caused tears on more than one occasion), or because they don't really have good communication skills. On the other hand, I've had a couple girls blossom for me, so I guess it balances out. But I would like to know why these painfully shy girls seem to gravitate towards me.

Well ,the phrase "painfully shy" is so bad!

You say that your not introverted and good socially..But we all are different.Doesnt mean that those girls donot have feelings.Maybe you are a person who has a calm and a soothing presence.

Anyway , I suppose , for you the best solution would be , the next time it happens, please take the girl introduce her to your friends and a nice friendly group and make her mix with others..She would get the answer-straightforwardly..
Atleast I believe you cant your self go upto her and make her amicably explain things!

Most likely because you give out that aura of being really nice and sweet and a good listener. I used to be really shy, and I did the same thing, becoming friends with guys that just seemed to be genuinely nice and a good listener and telling them a lot of stuff that went on in my life.

You said it yourself.. you're calm. Being calm and possibly a good listener (you have good eye contact and seem genuinely interested in what they say to you? and/or if you are not you are generally nice enough to listen anyway?) tells girls that it is okay to open up to you. Do you have one or more sisters? I have found that males with sisters often relate well to females and more females are drawn to them. Not scientifically proven, but interestingly true! :) Be open if you are not interested in them or only for friendship so as not to lead them on. Maybe you should consider being a counselor for a career!
