I bought a computer and was told that the screen is17 inch. When I measured it diagnolly, horizontally and vertically it wasn't 17 inch. The sales man also could not explain it to my satisfaction. Can some one explain it to me please? What should be the measurment of viewable portion of the sreen when it is a 17 inch computer screen?

it's measured diagonally, from top left to bottom right. it should be 17", it that's what it says on the box. look in the paperwork, companies that cheat usually call it viewable area,, and it is sometimes 16.5" or something like that. If it's 15" then someone repackaged a 15" mon into your 17" box.

Unfortunatly it can be any size. The monitor itself must be 17" diagonally.
