I think it depends on what you want to see. If you're just interested in seeing the famous "sights" that most tourists choose to see- then yes, you check out San Francisco, or the Grand Canyon, or Niagara Falls, or New York City, etc.. But if you REALLY want to "see & experience" the people AND places of my beautiful country, then buy a Greyhound Ameripass- and see the U.S. by bus. The bus goes just about everywhere in the U.S., you can get on & off whenever you like- & see whatever you wish. It's not an easy trip to make...-but it IS one you will never forget. Happy traveling & welcome! :)

Southern California.... The entire coast ROCKS!!
Starting in San Diego CA, then work your way north. Then across the country.... zig Zag your way throught it.
Every City in Sounther CA, has a tourist map type thing and it will also tell you about each activity for that particular place. Im sure the rest of the American Continent will have a similar web site for you to check out.

Go east (NYC) to west (San Francisco), its cheap enough. Plenty of hostels and cheap BBs. Travel by plane, amtrak train etc although cheaper to buy tickets in advance. Grand Canyon OK but Yosemite NP much better. Give Las Vegas a go and recoup some of your dollars!!! San AntonioTexas (Alamo), Washington DC (Arlington), Orlando (great fun). Good food abound especially the Garlic resturant in San Francisco. Wonderful country, enjoy your trip but plan it as best as possible first.

there are 100's of places to visit in America depending on how you are traveling and from what start point. from Texas;however, I would travel to South Dakota to see Mt Rushmore. You can start by going New Mexico,Colorado,Wyoming , than South Dakota. Seeing everything from white sands, to grand canyon
different ranches in Wyoming for fun and games, than to the flinstone park, crazy horse mem. and Mt Rushmore with multiple buffalo, and other different wildlife.
